A SEKE neighbourhood watch committee has mobilised their community and resources to safeguard their transformer oil base in their fight against crime.

The Riverside suburb community engaged Mkane Security Service company and built a guard room at the site where their transformer oil box is located.

The community then engaged the police and handed over the guardroom to Chitungwiza Police Station.

Officer Commanding Chitungwiza District, Chief Superintendent Severino Muguti, said:

“The word of God says ‘behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity’.

“May I highlight that construction of this Neighbourhood Watch security office was long overdue because a facility of this kind is very critical for the protection, safety and security of Riverside.

“This ceremony reflects the highest level of togetherness between Riverside residents.

“It is my encouragement and invitation to all other communities in the district to imitate this good example.”

Chitungwiza Police Station recorded a total of 1538 cases of crime, compared to 1343 cases recorded during January and February last year, which constitured a 15 considerable increase.

Chief Supt Muguti thanked Mkane Security company director, Zondiwa Nyamande, and Sarah Madzivire of Forit Contracting for providing a piece of land for the guard room.
