Companies donate papers to varsities

Bulawayo Suspension Centre group of companies donated 650 copies of yesterday’s Chronicle to Nust while Alex Plumbers Company donated the same quantity to LSU.
The copies were handed over to senior officials from the two universities at separate occasions.

Receiving the donation, Nust registrar Mr Fidelis Mhlanga said the newspaper copies, which had the full 2012 budget statement were very important documents for students.
“Every time when there is a budget all people would be interested in knowing what it contains, moreso for university students who would want to analyse it and discuss its implications to the economy,” said Mr Mhlanga.

“Research forms the basis of academic work and no doubt these newspapers are a valuable source of information for research.”
He commended Bulawayo Suspension Centre and Chronicle for partnering with Nust in many ways.

Receiving the donation at LSU, the institution’s acting bursar Mr Smile Sibanda commended Alex Plumbers for extending support towards learning.
He said the donation was reflective of the Government’s stance on the promotion of private-public partnerships (PPPs).

He said the budget statement was an important document that every Zimbabwean must have, adding that students would benefit immensely from the copies throughout the year.
Alex Plumbers general manager Mr Phinias Matava said his organisation grew because of the support it got from the community hence its decision to assist in whatever way institutions of higher learning.
In his remarks at the two occasions Chronicle circulation manager Mr Vethi Tshuma said the newspaper copies will provide students with information on  the budget and will be used as reference material for a long time.

Student representatives from the institutions were also elated to be given Chronicle copies free of charge and said this was a positive gesture from companies.
