from one of the suspects Zwelibanzi Dube who was employed by the retail shop.
Detective Asst Insp Justen is based at the Criminal Investigation Department’s Law and Order Section in Harare.
He said the truck was impounded at the time Dube and others were arrested and it was being held by the police.
Det Asst Insp Justen believed the vehicle was being used in the commission of the offence.
He told the court that he separately arrested Dube, Simon Mapanzure and Simon Mudimu before handing them over to his superior who subsequently carried out further investigations.
Upon arrest, the Det Asst Insp said, the three co-operated with him and never resisted arrest.
Dube was arrested in Glen View at his house and the vehicle was recovered from a nearby car park. Det Asst Insp Justen said he later arrested Mudimu at his workplace before going to Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospitals where he picked up Simon Mapanzure.
The detective dismissed claims that the suspects were assaulted during arrest. The trial continues today with defence lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa cross-examining the witness.
Law Officer Mr Edmore Nyazamba is prosecuting. Insp Mutedza was killed on May 29 last year at Glen View 3 Shopping Centre while on duty.
He had been called to quell the violence that had broken in the suburb.
The 29 suspects, who have been in custody for more than a year, are denying the charges.
Justice Chinembiri Bhunu is yet to rule on the 29’s fresh bail application that was made last week.
