charges when she appeared before magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who remanded her in custody to today for bail ruling.
Prosecutor Ms Francisca Mukumbiri opposed bail arguing that Ngwenyazima was a flight risk. She argued that the suspected robber was likely to run away from justice if granted bail.
Ms Mukumbiri said Ngwenyanzima could not be trusted after she provided police with a fake address.
Ngwenyanzima filed a complaint with the court that she was assaulted while in police custody at Harare Central Police Station and she was having difficulty in walking and passing urine.
Ms Tshuma will rule on her bail application today.
It is the State’s case that Ngwenyanzima connived with her two accomplices who are still at large and posed as prospective clients who wanted South African rand equivalent to US$22 000.
To bolster their case, the State says, Ngwenyanzima, who was known to the complainant, informed her that she had a client who wanted the money.
Ngwenyanzima reportedly later introduced her alleged accomplices who are still at large to the complainant and a meeting was quickly arranged at Runhare House’s first floor.
During the meeting, it is alleged, Ngwenyanzima pretended to be taking some money from her back.
She allegedly took out an unknown spray and sprinkled the complainant on the face while the other two snatched the victim’s handbag which had R189 000 and US$160.
They bolted out of the building, leaving the complainant in pain.
