A company director has appeared in the Harare Magistrates Court facing allegations of defrauding a woman of US$8 320 in a failed visa processing deal.

Takudzwa Eugene Nhamburo was charged with fraud and granted US$400 bail when he appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo.

The complainant, Ms Ethel Marere, a self-employed vendor from Mainway Meadows, Waterfalls, Harare, sought Nhamburo’s assistance to process visa documents for her three children.

For the prosecution, Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe, said the alleged fraud took place in March in Waterfalls, Harare.

Ms Marere approached Nhamburo seeking help with the visa applications and he assured her he could facilitate the process.

Nhamburo reportedly charged Ms Marere US$8 320 for his services, promising to complete the visa application within two weeks.

However, after receiving the full payment, he failed to deliver as promised.

Despite numerous follow-ups, Nhamburo allegedly gave a series of excuses for the delays.

As time passed, he became increasingly evasive, prompting Ms Marere to report the matter to the police.

To date, Ms Marere has recovered nothing from Nhamburo.
