A director at Sulida Mining Private Limited, Xu Jin Xi (47), has appeared in court on charges of defrauding a client of chromium ore worth US$15 900.

He was granted bail and will return to court on January 9, 2025. The complainant is Yan Chen who lives in Borrowdale Harare.

Prosecutor Mr Rufaro Chonzi alleged that sometime in April this year, Xu approached the complainant and informed him that he was the director of Santle Mvurwi Mine and that he could supply him with Chromium ore at a favourable price.

He offered to sell him 35, 30 tonne trucks of chromium ore for US$20 900. Acting upon this misrepresentation, the complainant accepted this offer and paid US$15 900 as an initial deposit.

The remaining balance was supposed to be paid upon collection of the Chromium ore at Santle Mvurwi Mine.

The court heard that the complainant then travelled to Santle Mvurwi Mine to collect the Chromium Ore which he had paid for but upon arrival, he failed to get the ore and had to wait for six months without getting the chromium ore.

Xu kept on making excuses that the paperwork was still being sorted out and the complainant kept on waiting until he decided to travel back to Harare.

Upon his arrival, he decided to file a police report which led to Xu’s arrest.
