A DIRECTOR of Rumrites Enterprises allegedly duped a Harare businessman of US$10 000 that was meant for the purchase of mining equipment.
Pasipamuruka Chilimanzi, and his accomplice Nkosinathi Ncube, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi over the weekend.
The complainant is Paul Mutuzu.
Allegations are that in November 2022, Mutuzu wanted to install a Gold Processing Plant at his mining claim in Mazowe.
He posted a message on a Whatsapp group dubbed ‘Mining in Zimbabwe,’ looking for a supplier for the equipment.
Ncube responded to Mutuzu and introduced himself as a director at Rumrites and was in a position to manufacture, supply and install a three tonne wetpan, a five tonne jaw crusher, transformer and concentrator at the mine.
Chilimanzi and Ncube sent a draft of a contract on his Whatsapp account advising they were to manufacture ad supply the mining equipment at a total cost of US$10 502.
Mutuzu was to pay US$7000 before installation.
The balance would be paid in two months.
They then ordered Mutuzu to deposit US$ 4000 through Access Forex and he complied.
After the lapse of two months, the duo misrepresented to Mutuzu that they were waiting for the transformer to be delivered from South Africa and then they would then complete installation process.
On January 6, Chilimanzi then started ordering Mutuzu to pay off the balance while they were awaiting for the transformer to be delivered.
Chilimanzi sent Mbuso Butholezwe and Mike Nkalakatha to Harare to collect the money and was given US$1800.
Ncube also instructed Mutuzu to send him US$ 2 981, through Access Forex, which he did.
Mutuzu paid a total of US$9500 but got a receipt for US$8800.
The duo delivered an incomplete wet pan and gave excuses for the rest of the equipment.
Mutuzu then filed a police report.
