THE Computer Society of Zimbabwe will tomorrow (Tuesday) host a discussion on issues affecting women in the information communication technology sector. The discussion will run under the theme, “Women in ICTs-Challenges and opportunities”.In a statement, the society said the event will be addressed by some of the leading women in the local ICT sector who have also been challenged and inspired by other successful women worldwide.
“The event will be facilitated by some of the leading women in the ICT sector in Zimbabwe among them, X-Pert Solutions managing consultant Joyce Benza, Computer Society of Zimbabwe deputy director Viola Dondo, Premier Service Medical Aid Society ICT manager Margareth Ziramba, while lawyer Rumbidzai Dube will be the guest speaker,” read the statement.
Focus of the event will be on the challenges being faced by women in making a break-through in the field of ICT that has for long been male dominated.
“Considering that the facilitators are women shows that the ICT field is for everyone and much can be done from every angle.
“Opportunities will also be discussed in relation to how the girl child can be better prepared for a career in ICT leadership, software and network engineering and many other facets of ICT,” added the statement.
The event comes at a time the society is undergoing transformation with a possibility of re-branding to ensure that it operates professionally while achieving its set targets and objectives that include ensuring the ICT person remains relevant.
In a recent interview with our Harare Bureau, CSZ new president, Dr Gilford Hapanyengwi expressed his desire to see the society growing from strength to strength while being inclusive in its approach towards empowering Zimbabwe with relevant ICT expertise and this event is one such step.
“My hope is to see the society fully integrating with the business community so that the world can see that as ICT personnel we can bring business solutions to organisations, while our approach will be to bring everyone on board” he said.
