Concentrate on business not internal politics, investors urged

INDIVIDUALS and companies seeking to invest in Zimbabwe should concentrate on business and not concern themselves with the internal politics of the country, Augur Investments managing director Mr Sharpe has said.Speaking during a tour of a completed section of the Harare International Airport road which his company is constructing, he said investors who were adopting a wait-and-see attitude were losing out it as the country was safe for profitable investing.

“Zimbabwe is a safe investment destination contrary to negative reports from some sections of the local and international media,” he said.
“We encourage potential investors and shareholders to come and see for themselves the situation on the ground.”
He urged investors to concentrate on business and leave the internal politics of the country alone.

“It is a win-win for the government as the road is financed by us in return for land which they give and when complete it is handed over to them,” he said.

“The land they give us in turn, requires further investment from us in terms of skills to town plan, design and service to allow it to be developed through putting up buildings, bringing further investment and employment for the country all which stays in the country and can never be taken away,” he said.

The 13km road is expected to directly link the airport and the central business district.
Construction of the road commenced in 2009 but progress was stalled by logistical constraints and other challenges.
Mr Sharpe described the airport road deal as a unique one as it was a land barter agreement.

“I do not know of anywhere else in the world that this has been done,” he said.
Mr Sharpe said the complete section of the road would be opened to reduce congestion as the country began to receive delegates for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation general assembly which begins on Saturday in Victoria Falls and Livingstone in Zambia.  – New Ziana
