The fifth edition of the International Entertainment Education Conference will be attended by Christopher Keyser, President of Writers Guild of America, Zoanne Clack, producer of popular US TV show “Grey’s Anatomy” and Walt Disney Feature Animation executive Karen Tenkhoff among others.
Vinita Nanda, director of TV show “Tara” would be representing Indian entertainment industry at the three-day conference.
“The three-day conference, first of its kind in Asia, focuses on how entertainment can be used to promote change. Our focus will be on women and children related issues,” David Gere, Executive Director of Art and Global Health Center, University of California, told reporters here.
“Artists and representatives from more than 20 countries, including the US, UK, Holland and Canada, will participate in discussions and performances,” he added.
Besides artists, film producers will also exchange ideas on how entertainment has been used in popular Hollywood shows and movies to create awareness on social issues, and if Bollywood can adopt the same approach.
“Entertainment industry in India has a wide reach. We have inspired Hollywood to write stories on social values. In Hollywood we have already showcased around 163 health storylines based on health issues in popular American television shows,” said Sandra de Castro Buffington, director of Hollywood, Health and Society, a program of the Norman Lear Center at the University of Southern California.
Popular films such as “Bol” from Pakistan and “Climate Refugees” from the United States will also be screened. – news.in.msn.com.
