yesterday appeared before a Chinhoyi magistrate facing rape and murder charges.
Casper Chihota (24) of Riverhead Farm was not formally charged with murder when he appeared before magistrate Mr Fani Nyakudya who later advised him to apply for bail at the High Court after remanding him in custody to July 8.
Allegations are that he waylaid his niece Pamhidzai on June 18 after separating her from her other siblings on the pretext that they had to buy her milk at a nearby farm and went on to rape her.
He disappeared after Pamhidzai’s body was found two days later after being reported missing only to resurface at the funeral and confessed to Pamhidzai’s father that he had raped and killed her.
This led to his arrest.
Pamhidzai’s body was found about 200 metres from the vegetable garden where she had been sent by her father to get some vegetables before bumping into Chihota who sent her twin brother and sister to a nearby
farm to buy him some milk.
Investigations by detectives established that she had bruises on her neck while her clothes were blood stained which proved that she could have been raped before she died.
Assertions by detectives from CID Chinhoyi were confirmed by post-mortem results which showed that she had been raped before she died from strangulation.
