Confusion over POY in upcoming gig

Dubbed as a taste of the best of both worlds, the gig featuring dancehall star Winky D and South African hip-hop veteran KO provided another subplot when it was announced last month that feuding city rappers, Cal_vin and POY would also be performing on the same stage.

This was no doubt music to the ears of drama loving city music fans, who were already tantalised by the prospect of seeing the Gafa and the Skhanda King, both with over half a decade worth of hits, share the stage for the first time at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre on 29 April.

Since their much publicised feud, POY and Cal_vin have not made any public appearances together, and many felt that the performances and crowd reaction on that night would determine who had won or was winning their a�?beefa�?.

Last week however, many fans were shocked to find that POY had been removed from the showa��s official poster, leaving only DJ Liz and Cal_vin as the only supporting acts.

As the organisers of the show did not offer any explanation of why this was so, the rumour mill immediately went into overdrive, with conspiracy theorists coming up with their own explanation of what had led to the exclusion of the rapper from the show.

Some felt that the beef with Cal_vin had soured things with the promoters, as the feud had done more harm than good to him. While he is a rap veteran, POY has been quiet in the last few years, and some felt that the feud was not the ideal way for him to reintroduce himself to Bulawayo.

POY himself was in the dark about what had led to his exclusion from the gig.

a�?Ia��m not sure about why I was removed from the bill. I didna��t receive any official word from the promoters about that,a�? he said in an interview with B-Metro this week.

The rapper added that, despite the fact that his name and image had already been used to advertise the show for weeks, he felt it would not be in his best interest to pursue the matter further because some unnamed forces were trying to bait him into more drama.

a�?My team has advised me to be low key and to say and do nothing because therea��re people trying to just create unnecessary drama. Ia��m just about my business and I want no drama so let the show go on without us,a�? he said.

To add to the confusion D-Nosh of 2Kings Entertainment, the organisers of the gig, contradicted the rapper and said that although he was no longer on the poster, POY would still perform on the night.

a�?He is not on the poster but on the night he will be the surprise act,a�? he said.
