I write to congratulate Anjin Diamond Company on its return to Chiadzwa diamond fields.
Before the company ceased operations in 2015, it was a source of employment for both locals and people from other areas.
Our area is semi-arid, we eke out a living through subsistence farming.
We are often stalked by hunger and poverty.
As a concerned villager, I urge the returning company to take active interest and play a leading role in the development of the area and in the alleviation of poverty like President Mnangagwa said last weekend. This can be done through social responsibility programmes.
As a local, I noticed that in the past, many mining companies in the area fell short in this regard.
Our roads are very poor and electricity is only a privilege of the mining company.
I hope that my plea will not, as has been the case previously, fall on deaf ears.
Tendai Chapeyama,
Kurauone Village, Marange.
