A CONMAN, who has been posing as a City of Harare Inspector, has been arrested for issuing fake business licences to shop owners along Kaguvi Street in Harare.

Edmore Muringayi, who masqueraded as an inspector who worked at the Rowan Martin Building in the Harare CBD, tricked shop owners into paying large sums of money for the fake licenses.

The City Council confirmed this in a statement:

“An investigation by the Harare Municipal Police uncovered three fake licenses this week along Kaguvi Street and when business owners were asked, they revealed that they had acquired them from Muringayi who claimed that he worked for the City of Harare at Rowan Martin Building.”

The police have urged business owners to be cautious of fraudsters masquerading as municipal officials.

“We urge business owners to be aware of unscrupulous fraudsters masquerading as municipal officials,” said police in a statement.

The authorities also advised business owners to verify the authenticity of inspectors before making any payments.
