ZIMBABWE women’s team, who crashed out of reckoning for the 2014 World T20 tournament at the qualifiers currently underway in Ireland, yesterday managed to get a consolation three-wicket victory over Japan to book a place in the finals of the less important shield competition.The Zimbabweans were relegated to the shield competition after finishing third in Group B, which was won by Pakistan.
Only two teams progressed to the semi-finals of the main qualifiers while the bottom two sides were relegated to the shield competition.
Zimbabwe lost two of their group matches against Pakistan and Netherlands before claiming their first win against Thailand, which came a little too late.
They will now play in the final of the shield competition against the winner between Canada and Thailand.
Zimbabwe yesterday dismissed Japan for 58 runs with Sharyce Saili the leading wicket taker after claiming three scalps for 15 runs in her allotted four overs.
The Japanese struggled with the bat as none of their players managed to get a double digit score.
