A LOCAL company Dream House Construction has assisted a Cowdray Park family to refurbish their house that was gutted by fire on Wednesday last week.
Dream House Construction operations manager Mr Mandlenkosi Zulu said the company management was touched by Mr Tapelo Muleya’s family’s predicament and felt the need to help.
“We were doing a project in Cowdray Park when the man approached us asking for old roofing asbestos that we were removing from a house we were working on.
“So we dug deeper to understand why he needed them, that is when he explained that the house they were living in caught fire and we decided to assist with new roofing materials and timber,” he said.
Mr Zulu said it was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to plough back to the community that serves them.
“The community is where our customers come from, so in times of need we have to assist them too. This is why we offered to not only supply them with new roofing materials but to also repair the damaged roof as our small token to the affected family,” he added.
Mr Muleya recalled what happened on the day of the house was gutted.
“Around 5am I woke up and there was no electricity, so I lit a candle to prepare for work.
“I put the candle on top of the wardrobe as that is what we always do as we have a toddler.
“However, I had to rush to work and my wife was also arriving from outside the country, I forgot to put out the candle and when she came home she also did not notice that there was a candle burning in the house as it was now daylight,” he said.
Mr Muleya said his wife left to visit her parents and it was then that the house caught fire. He was alerted by neighbours who managed to put the fire out using water and sand.
“I am amazed that we still have people like this in our community, these materials are expensive and when you find someone offering to repair your home at no cost, it means a lot. I am indebted to this company for assisting us during our difficult time,” he said.
