SELF-STYLED prophet, Blessing Chimbadzo, from the Johane Masowe sect, was arrested last Friday for illegal possession of a firearm.

He was on his way to Mbare Magistrates’ Court to face extortion charges.

Detectives from CID Homicide acted on a tip-off and found a 9mm pistol, with seven live rounds, wrapped in a balaclava in Chimbadzo’s car.

Further investigations revealed that he did not have a valid firearm licence.

Chimbadzo is no stranger to the courts and has had previous legal troubles, including a 2018 rape charge, in a case in which he was later acquitted.

The current case involves allegations that he extorted a man for a python he claimed was causing illness to the man’s wife.

Chimbadzo allegedly pressed Norbert Zimvu to surrender his BMW and Toyota Hiace vehicles and $200 000 for him to remove a python he claimed was sucking blood from his wife.

The self-styled prophet claimed he had seen the python behind a cupboard during a cleansing ceremony he did alone in the room.

He refused to remove it until he was given the cars and money.

The matter is still pending.
