Controversy in Zimbabwe Pool Association

PROVINCIAL pool associations have resolved to dissolve their national executive. They are accusing the national body of squandering funds and neglecting players during the Carling Black Label Tournament in Zvishavane last Saturday. The participants at this year’s Carling Black Label event said the tournament was disorganised and further allege that the national association has not submitted financial statements since 2010.

Bulawayo Pool Association chairman Godfrey Kondo accused the national body of corruption. He said the Zimbabwe National Pool Association could not even come up with a proper budget for this year’s national championships held in Zvishavane.

“The national executive is not transparent in its activities and has failed to provide a budget for the events they have held so far,” said Kondo.

He said the problem was not with the sponsors but with the interim national board which replaced one substantive one in 2009 which was led by Samson Bhuza.

Every provincial body was represented in that executive.

“The interim executive was not voted in through proper channels in accordance with the constitution and they have failed to produce financial statements despite the subscriptions we have been paying to them,” said Kondo

Vandirai Hove, the Midlands Pool Association chairman raised similar concerns. He said the national executive must have provincial executives sitting in it.

Sam Simenti who is the Beitbridge Pool Association (BBPA) chairman said the BBPA provided some funding for their players as they did not trust the national executive with the welfare of players.

“We had to provide some money for our players because we know that we cannot rely on the national executive to protect the interests of our players,” said Simenti.

Trust Chifadza, the Zimbabwe National Pool Association president says provinces will always complain.
