Cont’s brother dies after Amakhosi attack

VETERAN playwright and arts guru Cont Mhlanga’s brother, Lethubuhle, died on Thursday after being attacked during a suspected robbery near Amakhosi Cultural Centre.
According to a family source, Lethubuhle who was also into arts, was picked up during the early hours of Monday and was immediately rushed to Mpilo Hospital where he succumbed to injuries sustained during the robbery.

“Although I cannot confirm what really happened because the elders are not here, all I know is that he was picked up close to Amakhosi, severely beaten up. They rushed him to the hospital where he was in a critical condition until he passed away.

“It is a sad time for the family because at one point we were laughing with him and the next he has passed away,” said a family member who declined to be named.

When a Sunday News crew visited the family house in Nguboyenja yesterday evening, they found a few relatives milling around, who revealed that most of the family had travelled to Lupane in the morning for the burial set for today.

“The elders went with the body to our rural home in Lupane for burial. Maybe when you come tomorrow (today) we can give you an official comment,” said one of the relatives.

Efforts to contact Cont were also fruitless as his mobile phone was not reachable.
