adminAlastair Cook is expected to remain captain when England name their squad on Wednesday for the one-day series in Sri Lanka, which starts in November. Several former players have called for Cook, 29, to be replaced following series defeats by Sri Lanka and India. England play seven ODIs in Sri Lanka, starting on 26 November. They contest a tri-series against India and hosts Australia in January before the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starts in February.
Batsman Cook was appointed one-day captain in 2011 and led England to the top of the International Cricket Council ODI rankings the following year.
England have lost their last four ODI series at home, although they reached the final of the Champions Trophy on home soil in 2013.
Cook has captained England in 63 ODIs – a record for his country – and is 13th on the list of England’s all-time run-scorers, with 3,085 at an average of 37.62 and strike rate of 77.57.
However, former England spinner and team-mate Graeme Swann said in August that Cook should not play one-day cricket, while ex-captain Michael Vaughan said he should not lead the 50-over team.
Ashley Giles, the ex-England limited-overs coach, told the BBC this month that it was “too late” to sack Cook so soon before the World Cup, although ex-England batsman Geoffrey Boycott said: “It’s never too late.” — BBC Sport
