A police officer was left for dead after he was stabbed by a man he was trying to restrain during a fight.

The suspect, Moreblessing Mukundwa, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Marewanazvo Gofa.

He was remanded in custody and was advised to approach the High Court for bail.

The complainant, Enock Rushwaya, is a police officer stationed at ZRP Five Avenue.

The court heard that on October 18, at Gunda Shops, Hopely Zone 6, at around 6 pm, Mukundwa had an altercation with some members of the public.

Without any provocation from Rushwaya, Mukundwa took a kitchen knife from one Mai Tsitsi’s vending table and stabbed the police officer once on the right cheek, once on the right shoulder and once on the right collar bone.

A police report was made and Rushwaya was rushed to hospital, where he’s currently admitted.
