A police officer who was facing charges of stealing 59 bags of maize from a police mess in Gweru has been acquitted. Magistrate Mildred Mutuvi ruled that evidence against Assistant Inspector Marowa Nyamande failed to prove all essential elements of the offence and she therefore found him not guilty.
Allegations against Nyamande, 39, of ZRP main camp in Gweru were that he stole the maize and exchanged it for livestock.
Mutuvi said the state was supposed to bring individuals who bought the maize using livestock as witnesses.
Chipo Matshe represented the state.
