Cop in the dock for rape

A POLICE officer stationed at Nyazura allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl after she turned down his love proposal.

Constable Moses Banda (27) allegedly raped the girl while she was on her way home from Nzvimbe Business Centre.

Cst Banda appeared before a Rusape magistrate last week, charged with rape.

He denied the charges.

Magistrate Livingstone Chipadza remanded Banda out of custody to June 3 on $50 bail.

Cst Banda’s trial was supposed to start on Tuesday last week, but his legal counsel applied for a postponement, saying he was not feeling well.

The prosecutor Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira did not oppose the application.

Mr Mutyasira alleges that on April 16 this year at around 4.30pm the 17-year-old girl was walking home from Nzvimbe Business Centre when she met Cst Banda.

Allegations are that Cst Banda stopped the teenage girl and asked to walk her home. The girl agreed.

It is alleged that Cst Banda proposed love to the girl, but she turned him down.

He allegedly grabbed the girl and pulled her to a nearby building, which is under construction. The court heard that Cst Banda floored the girl and raped her.

The girl reported the abuse to her father, who alerted the police.
