On Tuesday, the parties had agreed that they come before the court with an agreement on how many more activists should be released. In his report back on Friday, Mr Edmore Nyazamba from the Attorney-General’s Office said he was against the release of the suspects still held in custody.
He argued that they did not fall into the category of Cynthia Manjoro, Madzore and Taruvinga, who were recently released on bail. Lead defence counsel, Ms Beatrice Mtetwa, accused Mr Nyazamba of buying time by denying her clients bail.
“The court has already ruled time has been wasted on bail applications. We do not agree with the State on their analysis.
“It appears the State is buying time and they want them to spend more years in prison. The matter was brought to court and he (Mr Nyazamba) is supposed to use information at hand,” she said.
Justice Chinembiri Bhunu said the Friday’s court session was a special sitting for report back on the question of bail ruling.
