Cop murder case: Madzore gets bail

High Court was satisfied that they deserved the freedom.
There was drama after the court adjourned for lunch as one of the female suspects offered herself to become the judge’s second wife while celebrating the release of the two.
“Kana judge vachida mukadzi wechipiri ndiripo zvangu (If the judge wants a second wife, I am available,” said the woman in jest.
The release of the pair brings to three the number of suspects granted bail so far. Cynthia Manjoro was released under the similar conditions after the court satisfied itself that she was a proper candidate for bail.
The latest decision was made after defence lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa had cross-examined the investigating officer detective, Chief Inspector Clever Ntini, on the evidence against the duo.
After the cross-examination, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu said he was convinced that the two deserved to be released on bail under the circumstances which Manjoro was freed.
Justice Bhunu further allowed the State and the defence lawyers to analyse the evidence against each of the remaining 26 inmates to check if they could also be released under the same circumstances. The parties will on Friday come before the court with an agreement on how many more should be released.
It was all smiles in the courtroom with some hugging and singing after the court adjourned. Hope for freedom could be seen written all over the faces of the suspects with some praising the judge for the decision.
Justice Bhunu said if the parties fail to reach an agreement by Friday, he would intervene and make a ruling. “From the evidence led in this court so far, the circumstances of the two — Solomon Madzore and Lovemore Taruvinga (alias Magaya) — are not different from that of Cynthia Manjoro,” he said.
