Man rapes housemaid during wife’s absence

Ms Mupindu remanded him in custody to tomorrow for judgment.
Prosecutor Mr Luke Mutupe alleges that on May 25 Mushangwe took advantage of his wife’s absence after she visited her rural home leaving him behind with their maid.
On the day in question, Mushangwe left the house early with his two younger brothers only to return later around 11pm.
Upon their return, the maid woke up to unlock the door for them before she went to bed again.
The court heard that around midnight, Mushangwe woke up naked and sneaked into the maid’s room.
He allegedly uncovered and undressed her before gagging her mouth with his hand as she tried to scream.
After that Mushangwe went on to force himself on the defenceless teenager.
The teenager identified her assailant by switching on her torchlight as he was returning to his bedroom.
The following day his wife returned home and the teenager informed her, but Mushangwe denied that he had raped the woman.
This prompted the young woman to file a report with the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
