A policeman stationed at Mbembesi Police Station has been arrested for allegedly assaulting four men who had been arrested for unlawful entry.
Gadaffi Sibanda (26) had a warrant of arrest issued against him on the first day he was supposed to appear in court last week when he defaulted.He is facing four counts of assault for allegedly using a baton stick to beat up Mr Erick Mtekedza, Lucky Ncube, Clive Moyo and Polosate Tshuma.
The four had been arrested on allegations of breaking into a house belonging to Mr Patrick Ngulube at Gadade Shops where they stole some property.
According to court documents, Sibanda is believed to be on the run and the case was postponed indefinitely by Mr Tawanda Muchemwa on circuit in Inyathi.
Allegations against Sibanda are that on 13 April this year, he was on duty with Constable Banda when they received a report that some people had broken into a house and stolen some property.
The court was told that Sibanda and Cst Banda arrested Mtekedza (22), Ncube (24), Moyo (19) and Tshuma (18), all from Gadade area on suspicion that they were responsible for the break in.
It is alleged that when the four denied having knowledge about the break in, Sibanda forced them to lie on the ground behind the shops and assaulted them under the feet with a baton and also slapped them.
The court was told that the four sustained bruises on the face and had swollen feet.
A report was made to the police leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
