A Gweru man committed suicide by shooting himself in the forehead using his father’s rifle, police said. Emmanuel Kakono Junior (21) was being investigated by the police over a theft case involving a Nokia 112 and a phone memory card when he allegedly decided to commit suicide.Police spokesperson for Midlands province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which occurred on Wednesday in Mkoba Village 15.
“It is alleged that the now deceased man’s father, Mr Emmanuel Kakono arrived home at about 5pm and parked his vehicle, a Ford Courier leaving his rifle, a Bruno 22 loaded with a round behind the back seat,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Kakono Jnr later arrived home at about 7.30 pm and went straight into his bedroom.
“In no time Kakono Jnr got out of his bedroom, went straight to where his father’s car was parked and took out the rifle. He then walked towards the house and shot himself in the forehead when he got to the door step,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Kakono Jnr was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he died the same day.
“It was discovered that the now deceased was facing a charge of theft involving a Nokia 112 and an eight gig memory card valued at $60,” he said.
