A POLICE officer recently refused to pay maintenance for his children accusing his former wife of using the money to “spoil” her boyfriend. Limern Ncube accused his former wife, Mercy Ncube from Nkulumane, who had dragged him to court for maintenance of diverting money meant for his children’s school fees to spoiling her boyfriend.
He said: “The $150 she is demanding from me is not meant for the children.

“She is going to use it to buy presents for her boyfriend and my children will be left with nothing.”
Ncube said his children had been sent away from school because of her actions.

“They once failed to go school because she had used the money to spoil herself and her boyfriend. I will not support her and her boyfriend because I am not their parent,” he said.

In her defence, Mercy denied having used the money to spoil her boyfriend
“He is lying because I have never received any money from him.

“Where would I get the money to spoil my boyfriend when I am failing to provide for the upkeep of my children?” she said.
Magistrate Victor Mpofu ordered Ncube to pay $70 a month as maintenance for his children starting end of this month and warned Mercy against abusing the money.
