A CHITUNGWIZA based police constabulary and three accomplices appeared in court last Wednesday charged with criminal abuse of office after they allegedly demanded $100 bribe from a motorist whose car they had impounded.

The prosecutor, Mr Desire Chidanire, told the court that on July 27 this year, Stanely Chikopisi parked his unregistered VW GTi outside Kunaka driving school at Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza.

He was approached by Harry Dowa, a police constabulary based at Chitungwiza Police station, who was in the company of Mashoko Chidangwara.

The duo arrested Chikopisi for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Dowa advised Chikopisi to drive the vehicle to Chitungwiza Police Station where it was held as exhibit.

At the police station, Dowa, acting in connivance with Admire Zengenene, Madusa Chikumbirike and Chidangwara, demanded $100 from Chikopisi in order to release his vehicle.

Chikopisi failed to raise the money.

He reported the matter to the Harare Anti-Corruption team and a trap was set.

Zengenene was handed a $100 note, serial number LF 89739328F by Chikopisi.

He was arrested on receiving the money.
