Copa Coca-Cola trophy to be paraded at Mzilikazi High

THE country’s most prestigious schools soccer tournament trophy, Copa Coca-Cola will be on parade at Mzilikazi High School on Wednesday as part of a nationwide tour of former winners.

Coca-Cola senior brand manager, Vee Chibanda will bring the trophy to the Bulawayo school who were the winners of the competition four times. Mzilikazi won Copa Coca-Cola in 1989, 1993, 1999 and 2001.

On top of having the Copa Coca-Cola paraded at their school, Mzilikazi are also getting a books donation from Coca-Cola.

“We are coming on a Copa Coca-Cola trophy tour and to hand over books to Mzilikazi High School for winning Copa Coca-Cola four times. The books are being handed over to the Provincial Education Director on behalf of the ministry, parents and school. Mzilikazi will receive academic books as per the school list,’’ Chibanda said.

From Mzilikazi, the Copa Coca-Cola trophy will find its way to Hippo Valley and Churchill, who have also won the esteemed tournament four times.

As part of the build-up to this year’s competition, the Bulawayo districts have completed their competitions with the winners, together with defending champions to play in the provincial finals on 29 June at Gifford High School.

Meanwhile, the Copa Coca-Cola district winners have been confirmed in Bulawayo ahead of the provincial finals to be held at Gifford High School at the end of the month. For the girls, Sobukhazi, Magwegwe, Tennyson, Hlabangana, Pumula and Townsend will join defending champions Mpopoma at the provincial tournament on 29 June.

Gifford, Luveve, Mpopoma, St Bernard’s, Christian Brothers College and defending champions Lobengula will fight for the sole ticket to represent Bulawayo at the national tournament to be held in Zvishavane from 12 to 14 July.
