Copac co-chairpersons retreat to Vumba

revision of the draft constitution away from the prying media.
Zanu-PF co-chairperson, Cde Munyaradzi Mangwana, yesterday confirmed they were heading for Vumba to finalise revision of the draft constitution.
“We want to go to a more quiet place where we can concentrate without any noise,” said Cde Mangwana.
He dismissed media reports claiming that Zanu representatives from Copac were under fire from their party over a clause that gives a cap on presidential terms.
Cde Mangwana said the meeting of co-chairpersons will consider the draft constitution including the contentious clause and deliberate on it.
“We have not met as Copac to deliberate on some of the sections of the draft, including that clause.
“It is only after we have met that we will take a position. These media reports are malicious and defamatory,” said Cde Mangwana.
MDC-T co chairperson, Mr Douglas Mwonzora, said:
“We are trying to finalise the revision of the draft. Chairpersons and their advisers as well as some members of the technical committee will be meeting here in Vumba.
“We thought it best to come here because there are fewer disruptions.”
A source within Zanu-PF Copac representatives said they met on Tuesday and discussed their position regarding what they expect to be in the draft constitution.
It is those agreed positions that Cde Mangwana will take to the retreat and table before his co-chairpersons.
“If they agree, the co-chairpersons would have to brief us on that.
“It is only when they fail to agree when we will debate the issues further before we refer them to the management committee,” said the source.
“This media frenzy just exists in the mind of the media, nothing of what is being alleged has taken place, no position has been taken on those clauses.”
Drafters have in the past days come under fire for failing to capture what people said during the outreach programme.
