He was not formally charged when he appea-red separately before Harare regional magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo and provincial magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi.
Manyofa, the MDC-T vice organising secretary for Harare North, was in the first case denied bail by Mr Murendo because of the seriousness of the matter.
He will today also appear before Mr Mutevedzi for bail ruling in the case in which he is alleged to have disrupted a public gathering.
Prosecutor Mr Tafara Machaya told the court that on Sunday Constable Raymond Mufudza and Sergeant Dorova from Borrowdale police were on duty.
They were deployed at a Copac meeting at an open space in Hatcliffe.
It is alleged that the two policemen saw a group of people assaulting a person who was coming to attend the meeting.
The two intervened to stop the assault with the intention of investigating the cause of the attack.
While they were talking to the victim, Manyofa allegedly charged at Constable Mufudza and slapped him once in the face.
The State alleges that the crowd joined Manyofa and started beating the policeman.
He lost a tooth and his spectacles during the attack.
In opposing bail, prosecutor Mr Machaya said the accused is likely to endanger the safety of the public.
“He is likely to undermine peace and security in the country, If the accused was courageous enough to assault a police officer in uniform what would deter him from doing the same to defenceless civilians,” he said.
Mr Machaya said there is a likelihood that he will intimidate State witnesses if granted bail since he is riotous.
“If he is released on bail he will jeopardise the objectives and proper functioning of criminal justice system, since he had shown it by disrupting Government efforts to have a people-driven constitution,” he said.
Magistrate Murendo remanded him in custody to October 7.
In the other case Manyofa appeared before Mr Mutevedzi facing charges of disrupting a public gathering.
It is the State’s case that Manyofa was attending a Copac meeting at Greystone Primary School on Sunday.
Manyofa allegedly took to the podium reserved for Copac officials and started protesting that there were some people who were hired to attend the meeting.
As a result, it is alleged there was disorder in the hall where the meeting was being held.
Copac team leaders allegedly ordered him off the podium, but he refused and this further precipitated commotion in the hall resulting in the meeting being cancelled.
Prosecutor Tendai Chiduwa says Manyofa’s conduct disrupted the Copac meeting.
