Copper cable thieves caged 10 years

TWO men were each sentenced to 10 years in prison after they were convicted for stealing copper cables that belonged to the National Railways of Zimbabwe.

In a statement on X, the parastatal said Silent Magwenzi and Zvikomborero Chidhau were convicted at the Harare Magistrate Court on 18 December 2023 after they were found in possession of the cables at Marimba Feeder station.

“Two men were sentenced to 10 years each for stealing copper cables belonging to NRZ following their conviction at the Harare Magistrates Court on Monday. Silent Magwenzi and Zvikomborero Chidhau were found in possession of the cables at the Marimba Feeder Station. The NRZ commends the courts for imposing deterrent sentences on people vandalizing its infrastructure,” reads the statement.
