The police have recovered a car from a suspect they believe participated in a recent robbery, which occurred in Milton Park suburb.
They suspect that the car was bought with proceeds of Milton Park robbery. The suspect, Paul Chinomona, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Marewanazvo Gofa.
Allegations are that on August 21, the complainant, Mr Ismail Kassim of Milton Park, was leaving his premises in his car when he saw his security guard being pushed out of the guardroom.
He then stopped and lowered his car window to check on the security guard. Chinomona and his accomplices immediately confronted Mr Kassim, pointed an unidentified pistol and a rifle at him, switched off his vehicle and ordered him to disembark.
The robbers tied Mr Kassim’s hands as well as the security guard’s hands with shoe laces and ordered them to lie facing down in an empty swimming pool behind the house.
They stole an FN Brownian Pistol serial number 482029 loaded with four live rounds from the security guard before they proceeded to Mr Kassim’s house, leaving one of them on guard.
They got inside, ransacked all the rooms and stole US$59 000, which was in a lunch bag in Mr Kassim’s bedroom.
They took Mr Kassim’s car keys and drove off before they later dumped it along Bishop Gaul Avenue where it was recovered.
Chinomona was arrested after the police received a tip-off.
