CORONAVIRUS: 51 die as Zimbabwe records 2 661 new cases

51 people succumbed to Covid-19 yesterday as the country recorded 2 661 new cases in the last 24-hour reporting cycle.

The country has so far recorded a total number of 70 426 cases and 2 236 deaths. The national recovery rate has further declined to 67 percent as active cases go up to 21 258.

Mashonaland West recorded the highest number of 13 deaths followed by Bulawayo with 11 deaths. Harare and Midlands recorded nine cases each.

Matabeleland South recorded four deaths while Masvingo had two deaths. Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central had one death each.

All the cases are local transmissions.

The vaccination programme is continuing countrywide with 926 312 people having received the first dose while 605 556 people got the second jab.

A total of 30 332 people received their first jab yesterday and 10 139 their second.  The seven-day rolling average for new cases rose to 2 058 yesterday from 1 898.
