This comes after a local company Elite Car Hire yesterday donated food hampers to more than 150 widows and orphans before hosting a Christmas party for them in Harare yesterday.
Speaking at the handover ceremony Police Deputy Commissioner-General Levie Sibanda said the force will continue making efforts to look after the widows and orphans.
He said the goodwill exhibited by the company demonstrated that the force was not alone in its commitment to improve the welfare of the widows and orphans.
“Certainly, as an organisation, we are humbled by the generous donation for Christmas party and hampers for 100 orphaned children and 50 widows,” he said.
The party and the hampers, he said, would go a long way in motivating and comforting the widows and orphans.
Deputy Comm-Gen Sibanda said the challenges militating against economic revival endeavours did not spare the orphans who had to be content with less than two meals a day.
“Indeed, it is in light that we greatly appreciate the fostering of a sound partnership between the ZRP and Elite Car Hire in their determined endeavour to ameliorate the plight of our orphans,” he said.
He said the business community in general and Elite Car Hire had eloquently demonstrated what true religion was all about.
“I wish, however, to urge other members of the corporate community to emulate this noble gesture by Elite Car Hire through partnering the ZRP in other areas of need,” Deputy Comm-Gen Sibanda said.
The company’s managing director Mr Mohamed Allanah said they will continue to assist the less privileged.
“We want to make a difference in society and we would like to urge other business communities to help the less privileged in society. There are people out there and we will continue to remember them,” he said.
