Corporate world urged to support the arts

contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
Addressing journalists ahead of the launch of the movie “The Gentleman”last week, Minister Shamu said the country’s talent and creativity could be fully shown if necessary resources are availed to the actors.
“The Gentlemen”, a collaboration between Zimbabwean and South African actors, was launched last Saturday at 7 Arts in Avondale.

Said Minister Shamu: “The launch and production of this move is a welcome development as it contributes to the growth and development of the local film industry. I call upon different stakeholders to give these youngsters who have shown the way to their peers a chance to shine,” he said.
He urged the local and sub-region actors to produce films that show the African culture.
“The films must tell the true African story, based on the people’s culture, struggles, hopes, aspirations and the sub-region’s common destiny,” he said.

He added that the country was willing to work together with other countries that have succeeded in the film industry.
Minister Shamu called upon all film stakeholders, law enforcers and the general public to join hands in fighting piracy.
“I would like to reiterate my call to members of the public and all stakeholders to join hands in fighting piracy, which is destroying our film industry.

“The film industry has potential to grow but piracy has emerged as the biggest threat to the continued survival and growth of the sector,” he said.
“The Gentleman” is a locally produced action movie set in Harare and Johannesburg.
Produced by Ivory Pictures and The Decent ArtHouse, the movie features several celebrated Zimbabwean and South African actors.

Former Big Brother contestant Munyaradzi Chidzonga and South African actor Presley Chweneyegae better known as “Tsotsi” are the main actors.
Business mogul Philip Chiyangwa, who together with other private sector players sponsored the film, also makes a special guest appearance in the movie.
“The Gentleman” is a sweeping story of love, corruption, deception and social degradation.

The movie is expected to premiere in Namibia, Malawi, Malaysia and Australia.
