MOROCCO have sensationally pulled out of the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup 2025, and in a dramatic twist, East African powerhouse Tanzania have been roped in to complete the 14-team showdown set for Mangaung, Bloemfontein from June 4 to 15.
The Taifa Stars step into Group C, triggering a minor fixture shake-up. They’ll kick off their campaign against Madagascar on June 7, followed by a clash with Eswatini on June 11, both at Toyota Stadium.
This isn’t just about regional bragging rights for Tanzania. With the CHAN 2025 tournament on home soil shared with Kenya and Uganda around the corner in August, and World Cup qualifiers plus AFCON 2025 in Morocco looming, they mean serious business.
COSAFA isn’t new turf for the Tanzanians either. They made their debut way back in 1997, finishing fourth. After a forgettable return in 2015, they made a statement in 2017 by booting out hosts South Africa and bagging bronze after a shootout win over Lesotho.
With two recent AFCON appearances in 2019 and 2023 under their belt, Tanzania arrive with big ambitions and a point to prove.
Let the fireworks begin!
