Cossasa games team goes into camp

THE Zimbabwe Under-14 teams for the Confederation of School Sports Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) games has gone into camp at Northlea High School in Bulawayo ahead of the August 26-30 tournament.

The Under-17 athletes are taking part in the National Youth Games in Mutare and will join the primary school athletes after the games end on August 23.

Cynthia Khumalo, the Zimbabwe chef de mission, said they were satisfied with their preparations for the regional games.

“We’re working tirelessly round the clock to keep things on track. We’ve started our training sessions at the camping grounds, but are going to move to the competition venues for more practice,” said Khumalo.

Hartsfield would be used for both practice and competitive matches for rugby, with tennis set for Bulawayo Athletics Club (BAC) and netball at White City Stadium.

Volleyball will be played as an outdoor game at the Milton High School courts following the organisers’ failure to secure indoor courts. “Other countries are used to playing volleyball indoors but we failed to get such a facility,” said Khumalo.

The tournament will see teams from Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland battling for top honours.

Zambia are unlikely to participate in the games as they have still not confirmed their participation.
