HARARE City Council has unveiled its 2023 budget which it says is aimed at facilitating economic growth and development.

The budget is $213 427 billion, with $41.688 billion for capital expenditure and $171 758 billion for recurrent expenditure.

Presenting the budget, Council’s Finance and Development Committee chairperson, Councillor Costa Mhande, said the budget seeks to inspire confidence in residents and promote both local and foreign investment.

“These are positive deliberate measures being undertaken by the Council to contribute to the attainment of the national vision at a local level.

“The City of Harare endeavours to contribute to the national growth targets and bring about sustainability in service delivery.

“The 2023 budget seeks to support water infrastructure and rehabilitation through construction of a chlorine dioxide plant at Morton Jaffray Water Works,” he said.

He said Council believes the budget will protect vulnerable groups in society, through provision of world-class health services, as well as supporting gender mainstreaming through the Mbare Polyclinic for Sexual Gender-Based Violence.

He said the City will refurbish polyclinics and upgrade some of these facilities to match the service being provided by the Mabvuku Polyclinic.

“The budget seeks to procure mobile clinics to service areas with limited access to health facilities,” he said.
