Council buys water reculation equipment

In a recent interview, the council’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tariro Mativire, said the reticulation material had already been paid for.
“The material has infact been delivered to our premises. We had to defer work to this year because of the rainy season but everything is in place for work to start mid this month,” Mr Mativire said.
Mr Mativire said the upgraded system will service the business area and the two residential areas.
He said the upgraded reticulations systems will be extended to cover new residential areas.
“We have a huge housing backlog and there are plans for the establishment of a new residential area,” he said.
Mr Matavire said 90 percent of the growth point will be serviced by the upgraded systems.
He said the local authority had asked Government to provide additional funding to cover the remaining areas.
Mr Matavire said the whole project was expected to cost more than $65 000.
The Chivi council authorities have come under fire for failing to address water problems.
“I should make it clear to our residents that council does not have a direct say in terms of billing or supplying water to residents, that is the responsibility of ZINWA. As council we also pay a certain fee to them and concerns pertaining to water should be addressed to ZINWA,” he said.
The completion of sewer and reticulation systems will usher a new dimension at the growth point which is using Blair toilets.
