HARARE City Council employees claim they were only paid US$25 last month.
They are embroiled in a pay dispute with their employer.
The employees told H-Metro they only received US$25, instead of US$110, last month.
They have also not been paid cushion allowances.
The Council’s human resources department blamed pay delays to banking systems.
“Reference is made to the March 2023 salary payments that were made.
“This memo serves to advise all employees that one of the local banks is currently experiencing system challenges and because of that salary payments were done manually causing unnecessary delays.
“The outstanding cushion allowance and the US dollar balances were uploaded, but could not be processed by the bank because of system challenges,” read a Council statement.
It said as soon as the bank systems were fixed, their outstanding cushion allowance, and US dollar balances, would be paid.
“Over the weekend, there were double salary payments to employees’ accounts and some employees used the money without knowing that there were double payments.
“The bank tried to reverse these overpayments, but in some cases, it was too late as the money had already been used.
“Employees who used the money will have the same amounts deducted.”
