COUNCIL FLEXES MUSCLES, CLOSES SUNRIDGE BARS

THE Harare City Council has closed all bars at Sunridge Shopping Centre, except Homeground.

The Liquor Licensing Board renewed the operating licence of Homeground last month.

This was much to the disappointment of the local residents, who wanted all the bars at the shopping centre to be closed.

The bar’s licence is set to expire on July 6 next year.

Residents had complained about noise, prostitution, drugs, open defecation, littering and other issues. At least 120 Sunridge residents signed a petition calling for all bars to be closed and council agreed to shut them temporarily.

The Council will continue conducting investigations into whether they met council operating requirements.

Last week council promised to take drastic action against officials who connived with bar owners to renew operating licences.

Ward 16 councillor, Denford Ngadziore, confirmed the closure of the bars.

“Even Homeground is supposed to be closed. All bars should be closed,” he said.

“We don’t need any bars at Sunridge till all issues are addressed to the satisfaction of residents.” – Suburban.
