The Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) yesterday conducted an ordination service for 26 church leaders and a graduation ceremony for 200 church leaders whose churches fall under its umbrella body.

The ordained leaders come from across the country, while the 200 graduates completed a three-year theology diploma course under the Jefferson Leadership Institute. The institute is based in the United States but maintains a branch in Bulawayo.

The ceremony, held in Entumbane suburb, was presided over by CCA President, Archbishop Rocky Moyo.

Speaking during the ordination, Archbishop Moyo stressed the importance of having officially recognised church leaders who are licensed and ordained. He condemned the abuse of ministry by unlicensed prophets, saying their actions tarnish the reputation of the church.

“Church leaders, including prophets, must be ordained, certified, and licensed to do their work. We have many prophets who are soiling the name of the church because they are not recognized. Prophets must stop hiding behind rocks in the bush and preying on women. We are tired of fake prophets, and they must be stopped,” he said.

Archbishop Moyo also castigated individuals who exploit religion to marry and impregnate young girls, warning that such offenders must be exposed and face legal consequences.

During the ceremony, the CCA also honoured churches and individuals for excellence in various categories. Bulawayo-based prophet and leader of Faith in Christ International, Dr Thabiso Ngwenya, was awarded the Best Prophet accolade and presented with a trophy and certificate.

“I feel humbled to be recognised as the Best Prophet. It is a confirmation of my calling and the work I continue to do in assisting our people and lifting the name of my country across the globe,” Dr Ngwenya said.

The event highlighted the CCA’s commitment to professionalising church leadership and promoting ethical standards across ministries.
