in court charged with rape.
Evidence Mazuva (32) was not asked to plead to 20 counts of rape when he appeared before magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei who remanded him in custody to August 26.
He advised Mazuva to apply for bail at the High Court. The court heard that Mazuva is the complainant’s uncle and was looking after her since the death of her parents.
Prosecutor Ms Svodai Kadivirire told the court that between June and July this year in Waterfalls, Mazuva approached the complainant and told her that there was nothing for free.
It is alleged that Mazuva also told the complainant that none of their relatives cared for her but him alone and so she had no alternative place to stay.
Sometime in July this year, it is alleged, Mazuva went into his niece’s bedroom where she was sleeping and repeatedly raped her.
It is alleged that the complainant did not scream or shout for help because she was afraid that she would be chased away since she had nowhere to go. Mazuva, the State alleged, raped the complainant more than 20 times.
The matter came to light when the complainant narrated her ordeal to her sister who in turn reported to the police leading to Mazuva’s arrest.
