He said the local authority was repairing most rural schools that were damaged by heavy winds last year.
Mr Mbedzi said they were providing transport to ferry building materials, paying builders and other service providers as well as paying incentives for teachers in the most remote schools.
He said they were also repairing boreholes and drilling more to alleviate water shortages for both human and livestock.
“We are convinced as a council that education is power and a vehicle of change and accordingly, we are committed to participate in the delivery of improved education results in the district of Beitbridge.
“In order to achieve the aforementioned objectives we have adopted a variety of policy measures, which include provision of transport for building materials, payment of builders and other technical staff required, drilling and repairing of boreholes and incentives to teachers and school development committees,” he said.
Mr Mbedzi said they had so far built several classrooms and repaired others in areas that were damaged by heavy rains last year.
He said they were repairing badly damaged roads around the district.
“As a local authority we have done a lot towards the construction of school blocks, improving water and sanitation facilities in the schools, electrified most rural clinics and repaired many damaged major roads.
“We are in the midst of sourcing learning materials for the schools. We have well wishers who have promised to supply us with text books. Efforts are being made towards the building of a sports arena in the district,” said Mr Mbedzi.
