HARARE City Council has joined forces with different stakeholders to introduce digital technologies that will help automate the city’s traffic lights and enhance infrastructure on the roads.
This move aims to promote safer roads, especially given the recent increase in road traffic accidents that have resulted in fatalities.
Judith Majegu, the chief traffic and transportation planner for Harare, said council intends to establish “safe school zones” to mitigate the risks associated with high-speed traffic near educational institutions and reduce the speed limit to 30km/h. The police and other parties will partake in this initiative by campaigning for road safety and enforcing traffic regulations on the roads.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we need the support and cooperation of every resident to make a meaningful impact as we strive for accident-free roads,” said Majegu.
