Council to keep properties

Harare has close to 14 000 properties it rents out.
“Council does not accede to a request by sitting tenants of Dzivarasekwa for council to sell its rented houses to them,” reads part of the council minutes.

However, other residents staying in council properties across the city are demanding the same privilege after they failed to secure housing stands from the city.

Director of Housing and Community Services Mr Justin Chivavaya told the Education, Health, Housing and Community Services and Licencing Committee of the requests. He said at independence when council sold some of its housing stock, the move did not yield the desired results.
