Councillor’s domestic brawl turns into courtroom comedy!

A COUNCILLOR’S domestic drama turned into a courtroom comedy this week — complete with off-duty doctors, stunned in-laws, and a driver who swore he never left the truck!

Inyathi Councillor Abednico Maphosa, who previously claimed he was assaulted to near collapse by his ex-wife, her driver, and two in-laws, pulled a dramatic U-turn in court — clearing his ex and her driver in one breath!

“My ex-wife didn’t beat me. It was Cabangani and Lucky,” declared Maphosa, to gasps from the gallery and visible confusion on the accused bench.

Sikhanyisiwe, the estranged wife, had been accused of leading the “retrieval mission” to reclaim her property post-divorce, reportedly leaving Maphosa battered and breathless. But with one statement, she was off the hook — free to go faster than a councillor dodging potholes before elections!

Meanwhile, the driver, Isaac, claimed he never left the truck and had nothing to do with the chaos. “I was just the driver, your worship. I never got out.” That was enough for Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Sibonginkosi Mnkandla, who discharged both Isaac and Sikhanyisiwe after the State failed to prove their involvement.

Left to face the music are the two in-laws, Cabangani and Lucky Zulu, who stuck to their own version of events: “We didn’t beat him, he beat us!” In fact, they claim Lucky left the scene limping.

Their fate will be sealed this Friday when sentencing is handed down.

And just when the courtroom thought it had seen it all — enter the off-duty doctor.

Sikhanyisiwe’s lawyer, Anna Kunda, poked holes in the medical report, arguing that the attending doctor was off duty the day Maphosa was treated.

But the doc had his own plot twist:

“I was off duty, yes, but he called me. I always treat him. We go way back,” said the medic, raising eyebrows — and suspicions — in court.

With charges falling, drama rising, and a mystery injury that might’ve been self-inflicted (or not), this councillor’s caper proves once again: Politics and passion don’t mix well… especially when in-laws bring backup!
